Colectivo de mujeres por la Bomba y la Plena

Madre Tierra (Mother Earth) is a collective of female practitioners of Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena in the DMV area. Madre Tierra is a project developed and directed by Xiomara Enid Rivera Pagán and has a goal to continue learning, promoting, and spreading traditional Puerto Rican music through the empowerment of women. Members of Madre Tierra include Xiomara Enid Rivera Pagán, Isha M. Renta, Melany Rivera De León, Brenda María Soler Figueroa, Crystal Enid Rivera Pagán, Eunice P. Mercado Rodríguez, Josarie Enid Molina Santiago, and Serenella Linares. They perform Bomba and Plena from Puerto Rico, which are two musical genres rooted in African traditions. Madre Tierra is comprised of practitioners from Cultura Plenera and Semilla Cultural which are non-profits committed to the same mission across the Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia areas. These women have united in an effort to demonstrate the power of feminine energy throughout the Puerto Rican diaspora. Madre Tierra works to creatively demonstrate how women can uplift their culture and traditions in a way that can connect their audience to Puerto Rico’s rich language, culture, and musical traditions.
